Sales people who work at a Auto dealership?

My question isn’t about sales but about the mechanics who work at your dealership. Have you noticed that they make more money working for a dealership than an independent Auto shop or not?

Please state the brand dealership you work at and how much you have heard or know that the mechanics there make.

Yes, my service manager makes an obscene amount of money (more than me). We are primarily used, though.

what expenses can I claim as an auto commission sales person?

Revenue Canada says I cannot claim as a commission employee because I am not normally required to work away from my place of business. All my wages are commission

The only time that a commissioned sales person living in Canada can claim deductions (expenses) are when the business related expenses are a requirement of the job as stated by the employer.

In saying this, what business related deductions would you as a commissioned car sales person incur ? I know of none of the top of my head.

How many used cars were sold in 2008?

Can someone direct me to a source where I can find data on how many used cars were sold in 2008? Thanks!

It might be a bit early in 2009 to find that information easily. I would Google "automotive news data center" to see if it has been released yet. They might require you to purchase a subscription, though.

Good luck!

are there any good online guides to buying used cars?

i need to but a used car that gats better milage that my 13mpg freeway dodge ram.

but i dont know how to shopw for used cars. can ya help?

I think edmunds.com is a good resource, it helps you compare things and usually has a lot of spec info. Also, when you think you have it down to a few cars you’re interested in, look for forums on that vehicle. For example, search “4runner forums” and see what 4runner owners have to say, what problems they’ve had, etc. A lot of different vehicles have forums full of owners – and who knows a car better than someone who’s been driving it for years?

Really bad credit – Need Auto Loan?

I have really bad credit but I have a car that will qualify for the Cash for Clunkers. Where is the best place to go for a fair auto loan?

- Bad credit but my bf with good/very good credit is willing to cosign on my loan
- had my car repossessed in 2006
- I will have $1000 also for any down payment.
- Which car do you suggest I get (inexpensive but dependable car)?

There are a huge number of banks that deal with auto loans for people with challenge credit. The two best choices are:
1. Go to a very large dealership that advertises that they help people with credit problems. A large dealership will normally have more banks they work with, more talented leading specialist on staff, and stronger relationships with the banks. (There are exceptions to this rule of thumb.)
2. Put down a large down payment. The more money you put down, the more likely the bank is to give you the loan.

Also, note two additional things:
1. Depending on current rebate offers, a new car may be easier to finance with a lower payment and lower down payment for you.
2. Some credit unions are wonderful for people with credit issues.

My advice is to find a dealer you feel comfortable doing business with. Believe it or not, there are honest auto dealers and honest car salespeople. Try to find one you instinctively feel good about. Generally, you will get the best deal from a "good person".

Does anyone know of any Minnesota car dealers that finance bad credit?

or any other bad credit auto loans. I am improving my credit, but it is still bad, and my car is dying!
Serious answers only!

Typically, unless you buy from a ‘buy-here, pay-here’ lot, the dealership doesn’t actually finance the car. They submit your application to lenders and try to negotiate an approval. I would suggest to maybe try your bank or credit union to see if they will finance an auto loan for you. If not, then I would go to the nicest dealership in the area and talk to one of the associates about your situation. It’s best to be honest upfront rather than hiding it. Good luck.

It is the Dealerships responsibility to generate floor traffic – not the Salesman’s. It is the Salesman’s responsibility to capitalize on the customer he / she gets.

There is an easy rule of thumb to determine if the Dealership is doing its job and your not working a flooded floor. Divide the number of retail sales by the number of Salesman. On average a car salesman will sell 10 cars a month. A Dealership that sells 100 retail cars a month should have no more than 10 salesmen (500 sales – 50 salesmen). Once you’ve determined you’re in the right Dealership, you then need to make the most of your situation.

How is your appearance? Do you smoke cigarettes? Would a customer want to spend 15 minutes on a demo with you?

Car sales have traditionally been a male business. There are a couple of pitfalls you must avoid being a woman. First never, ever, ever go on a Demo without getting a photocopy of the customers Drivers License and then leaving the copy with your sales manager. Second – Wives buy cars! Don’t attempt to sell the husband a car and ignore the wife. The wife will spoil your sale every time.

You will not sell a car to every customer on the first visit. Customer follow-up determines the best salesmen. You should get most customers on a Demo – that will get you their addresses for a post card. (You photocopied their Drivers License for your safety and follow-up). If the customer gave you a phone number – a polite call every couple of days is a good idea.

Once you become a sales manager it will become your responsibility to generate floor traffic.

I gave my opinion to an Internet Sales Manager on how to generate floor traffic last week here at Yahoo! Answers. Click on my name and look for my advice to – “I am an Internet Sales Manager at a car dealership. How can I drive more traffic in to see me?”

Good Luck

What are my future career options after being a retail manager? How are auto sales viewed on resume?

I was in retail management for 15 years, left it 5 years ago to find different work. Now I am looking for work again. There is nothing wrong with auto sales on a resume.
